Our property:

Our home is thoughtfully set up for a comfortable mountain getaway. Enter through a large mudroom where you can leave all your outdoor gear. Upstairs, there is a large open living, dining, and kitchen area with plenty of space to cook a large meal, play games, or relax together after a day outside. Three bedrooms easily accommodate two families with a bunk room for the kids, or a group of friends. We have a big supply of board games to enjoy after a day of playing outside, and a hot tub under the trees where you can soak and enjoy the stars.

In the summer, walk a few blocks to the boat launch, where you can take our tandem kayak out for a paddle, or check out the miles and miles of hiking and mountain bike trails just around the corner. Ask us about our favorite trails!

In the winter, walk or ski to Royal Gorge with trail access just a few blocks away, or drive out to Sugar Bowl down the road. We have sleds for you to use on the neighborhood sledding hill just two blocks away, or you can drive up to donner pass for some epic sledding at the sno-park.

Guest access:

Guests have exclusive use of the entire main home and mudroom. The lower level includes a garage and separate owner suite that we may occasionally use; it has a separate entrance, and we do not access the home or mudroom during your stay. Your living spaces and entry remain completely private.

Most of the time, you'll have the property entirely to yourselves. Occasionally, we may be staying in the separate downstairs owner suite. If we're there, we'll respect your privacy and won't enter the mudroom or upstairs living space. The only shared space is the driveway, which can accommodate two guest cars even when we are there.

When we are not on site we're always just a message or phone call away. We want you to have a seamless stay, so if you have any questions before or during your visit, don't hesitate to reach out.

Other things to know about staying in the mountains:

• Winter travel: Snow can arrive quickly on Donner Summit. AWD/4WD with snow-rated tires is strongly recommended in winter, and California chain requirements may be in effect during storms. If a big storm is expected, arriving before dark can make the drive easier.

• Mountain wildlife: Bears and other wildlife are common in the area, so please keep doors closed and don't leave food or scented items outside or in your vehicle.

• Connectivity: Cell service can be spotty around Donner Summit, but the house has fast, reliable Starlink Wi-Fi.

• Our neighborhood: We're in a quiet residential community, so please respect our neighbors and observe quiet hours. No parties are allowed, and our rental permit limits the home to the number of overnight guests on your reservation.

• Fire station & water tower: The Serene Lakes fire station and community water tower are located near the house. We haven't found the fire station to be noisy, and its location has a nice winter perk: our stretch of road is among the first to be plowed after a storm. As throughout Serene Lakes, you may hear or see snowplows at work during heavy snowfall.
